I’m not going to lie, there were a couple of times during my hiatus when I seriously doubted that I would make my goal of reopening on March 1st. I just could not get up the motivation to work on my site or even really be bothered to think about it for that matter. But finally this past week I got it through my head that I was not going to let this damn apathy which has taken over almost every aspect of my life get the best of me and I started working on a layout. Now, 10 incarnations of that layout later, this is as good as it’s going to get (for now), and whittersNU is officially reopen!
I decided to take a leaf from the ever-wonderful Caity’s book and use my downtime give myself a fresh start. So, in addition to the fact that my blog is reopening today, you will also notice I’m doing the following things:
- New Content: I’ve redone my about pages and finally put some information up on my domain page. I was sick of what I had there (especially the “coming soon” message in the case of the domain page) and decided that it was time to revamp that stuff
- Restarted 365 Days: I have restarted my 365 days attempt and will be uploading those photos to my new Flickr account (whttrs). Once I’ve got at least 4 photos uploaded, I’ll switch my FlickrRSS plugin over to show them instead of the photos from my old account.
- Restarted my 101 in 1001 Project: I tried to come up with some less superficial goals, some more specific goals, and I also added in some goals from the old list that I completed but not long after somewhat reneged on (like the no biting nails) so now these goals are either more concrete or longer. I also added a handy dandy little progress bar in my sidebar to keep track!
- Cleaned Out Bookmarks: I deleted all my bookmarks and am adding people back in slowly as I remember who I wanted to have there. If you’d like to be on my Blogroll / exchange links just let me know and I’ll be more than happy to add you (provided of course I know you and actually read your blog sometimes).
- New Feed Url: Since I finally got sick of the fact that the new Wordpress makes my feed look all unhappy and stupid, I decided to switch back over to Feedburner. You can find my new Feed URL here!
- Blog Entry Substance: I began to notice near the end of January that I had become obsessed with posting every day to the point where I was posting just for the sake of posting. Sure I included my Flickr 365 photos and talked about them, but on the whole, I really wasn’t saying much of anything. So I decided no more posting just for the sake of it. Sure I’ll continue to share my 365 Photos, and I do plan on participating in NaBloPoMo at some time, but don’t expect an update every day. I’m just going to post when I’ve actually got something to talk about! Then maybe you guys will actually feel inclined to leave comments (well, more than you do now, anyways).
- New Blog Layout: What do you like? What don’t you like? Do you see any problems / spelling errors / etc? I have to give thanks where thanks is due, and that thanks is due to Jenn, Angel and Rochelle. Both Jenn and Angel have absolutely beautiful and simplistic blogs and they’re what inspired me to finally go for a 3-column look instead of two. Rochelle gets tons of thanks for helping me look through hundreds of fonts until I found one that I could live with for my post/page titles.
So other than that, I’ve got nothing left to do but welcome to back to whittersNU and hope that at least some of you are as excited about these changes as I am.
